The auction for racing camels is meant to highlight the historical, social, cultural and economic importance of these animals in the Arab world.
The aim behind organizing camel auctions is to help with cultural preservation and sustainability of camels, and also helps to improve the original features of purebreds.
On 28 – 30 December 2017, the Dubai Camel Racing Club (DCRC), successfully organized the second camel auction of the season, titled “Al Marmoum Fifth Camel Auction for Fatameen (camels under the age of two) - Batch B” designated for the individual reproduction camels.
The auction included 300 lots - divided into three days - of camels of both “Abkar” (female) and “Jeadan” (male) varieties, from some of the UAE’s most prized race track winners, i.e.; Nasi Al Mukhtabr, Al Shababi Al Asifa and others with strong pedigree and of high quality breeds.
The auction did prove to be a huge success with 20 camels being sold for a total of AED2.885 million. The first day fetched AED425,000, the second day, AED640,000 and the final day fetched AED1.82 million.
The third and final day of the auction witnessed a huge attendance and attracted large numbers of bidders from all the Emirates, and from the GCC countries as well. The final event featured aggressive bidding from prominent camel owners, where the top bid was paid by the pioneer bidder, Kasib Salim Al Musafri, for a male-camel; a son of “Al Shababi Al Asifa“, and from the mother “Muhajrah” who fetched AED550, 000.
The second highest bid went to a female-camel, a daughter descended from the pedigree of “Munawir“, and from the mother “Sudania” who fetched AED330,000, paid by Salim Rashid Saif Bal Shawi Al Ghafli. The third highest bid was for the daughter descended from the progeny of “Al Shababi Al Asifa“, and from the mother “Bint Shaheen” who also fetched AED530, 000, paid by Kasib Salim Al Musafri.
