Brand New Project presented by Dubai Polo Blog
Ride or Die was originally a biker term meaning if you couldn't ride you'd rather die, but has now in contemporary culture, become a colloquial expression of extreme loyalty to someone or something.
The Ride or Die MVP Awards is a ceremony which recognizes the unusually talented players in a tournament or tournaments, throughout a particular season, and their commitment toward enabling a good game each time they mount a horse and get on the field. It is an annual event which focuses on highlighting and judging extraordinary skills, with a view to enabling the further understanding of the game of Polo, for the viewers.
It is sponsored by Astir. [You really don’t need to know who they are.]
Judges include only women. Who run the world? Girls!!! [That's right].
Why the term ‘Ride or Die’?
That happens to be the only term that explains the height, the width, the length, breadth, volume, x and y axis of love we have for the game, the players and their skills. We need a winner who feels same for the game, and shows it.
Polo is a game made up of:
- A King or Queen [No.1]
- A Prince or Princess [No.2]
- Knight 1 [No.3]
- Knight 2 [No.4]
The King and Queen have diplomatic immunity so are off limits. They are therefore not included in the scrutiny and judgement. We analyze their game, but they are not to be judged [y'all gotta sho’ sum rispekt].
The criteria for judging the contestants include the Polo superhero abilities of the player while in action, the player's swag, number of times the commentator calls the player's name per chukker, and how cool the player still looks after the game, when they’re dirty, sweaty and tired.
Polo Superhero abilities include:
Sniper Shots
Assassin Hooks
Bugatti Bumps [bumps that don’t attract fouls]
Ball Hustle
Hustle Conversion [when the ball hustle eventually becomes a goal]
Screening [single, double or triple]
Assists
Networking [when a player passes the ball back and forth, to same or different team members, to gain advantage of a particular play]
360 Dribbles
Nearside goals
Backhand goals
Tennis Volley goals
‘Dinner is served’ goals [when a player receives a long shot at an advantage, and leaves everyone in the dust to score the goal, without opposition]
Mutant goals [when the goal is scored from a situation a bit difficult to explain]
