The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Heritage Centre (HHC) organized the 4th edition of the National Day Camel Marathon in association with the Dubai Camel Racing Club (DCRC) on February 2, 2019.
The revival of cultural heritage remains a necessity and a national duty, as heritage is the greatest source of strength, providing historical evidence of the social and cultural lifestyle of the past, and true history of the region.
The National Day Camel Marathon occupies a place of pride in the Fazza Championships annual events calendar, and serves as another platform to encourage the younger generation to take up traditional Emirati Sport, while staying in touch with their roots and cultural heritage.
The DCRC has successfully organized the Marathon Event for the second time, at Al Marmoum Smart Camel Racing Track, which is ideal due to its flat terrain which gives ease to the riders. The track also provides visitors a perfect view from two bridges.
The Marathon is a 2-round race of 11 km, making it 22km in total.
Participation in the Camel Marathon is usually limited to UAE Nationals aged 15 and above. 83 Riders, participated in the marathon displaying their full range of skills, with the finest performances along the course, as a testament to their heritage. The marathon tests the endurance and stamina of both the riders and the camels.
