Meydan Racecourse Comes Alive With Thursday Races

Updated: Nov 22, 2018

Thursday [November 8] night opener at Meydan saw a seven-race, all-dirt card, including five competitive handicaps and a pair of 1600m maidens.

The first of the maidens was the Longines Ladies Master Collection. The official feature was the Longines V H P Collection, a 1400m handicap, which appeared highly competitive on paper with its eight runners. The deal is if a horse owned by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum [Royal De Luxe] or Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum [Le Crown Prince] is on the track, they’re the stallions to beat. Doubles are likely to be initiated, with searing gallops strong on the straights and turns.

Superior, trained by Ahmad Bin Harmash and jockeyed by Connor Beasley took the first win of the evening.

Superior (USA) (Ahmad Bin Harmash – Connor Beasley) wins the Longines Ladies Master Collection Maiden at the second Racing at Meydan meeting on November 8, 2018.

“As with Walking Thunder, we were hopeful because his work at home had been good,” bin Harmash said. “Obviously, we are delighted to have won the first two maidens for the 2-year-olds.”
