The Dubai Polo Season has hit mid-term, with the kick-off of the Dubai Gold Cup Series; the elite high-goal series of tournaments, hosted by Al Habtoor Polo Resort and Club in Dubai.
In a season filled with thrills and many ups and downs, Habtoor Polo Team and Desert Palm Polo Team, started off on the right foot, while Zedan Polo Team found disappointment in unlikely places. On Day 2, the UAE Polo Team and Ghantoot Polo Team got upper hands as well. We can't quite tell the reason Zedan is having a not-so-good Silver Cup Tournament, while UAE Polo has received a boost.
Word on the 'Polo Street' has it that it might just be because UAE Polo got Tomas Panelo, who was one of the two Zedan star players last season. Zedan also lost Pablo McDonough; the other star player, this season. And though he was replaced with Raul Laplacette; who led the Bin Drai Team to Gold Cup victory last season, the chemistry on the field still lacks a certain je ne said quois.
"We're glad to have Facu Sola join the team this season," Mohammed Al Habtoor said. Facu has brought the energy that we need this season."
Facu scored 5 out of the 11 winning goals on the Opening Game between Habtoor and Zedan, and is a strong contender for the 'Ride or Die' MVP.
