Who Needs A Ferrari When You Can Own A Camel?

Updated: Aug 2, 2018

Al Ain Camels, especially the Margham-breds, are formidable when it comes to the Marathons. As the Sheikhs looked on, and the crowd was in high anticipation, with the children running all over the place, the Al Ain Team dominated the afternoon session of the Camel Marathon Feature, at the Al Marmoun Camel Heritage Festival 2018.

The 1st Lap – Reproduction Haul Camels, was dominated by a Mohammed Sultan Mattar Bin Markhan Al Katabi-trained female camel called Borouq (‘Lightning’ in English), clocking in 12:25:02 minutes. That’s a take home comprising the Dubai Crown Prince Golden Sword and AED2,000,000 prize money.

The 2nd Lap – Reproduction Zumool Camels, was taken by Zakhir-bred Shaheen, owned by Khaleel Rashid Al-Shamsi. That’s a take home comprising The Saddle Seat and AED1,500,000 prize money.

The 3rd Lap – Local Purebred Zumool, was taken by Al Sayad (‘Hunter’ in English), owned by Khalifa Ali Khalifa Al Rumaithy, taking home similar prize as with the 2nd Lap, while the 4th Lap – Local Purebred Haul, was triumphantly won by Meyasa, owned by Salih Mohammed Nasrah Al Amri, taking home The Golden Dagger and AED2,000,000 prize money.
